Education at Toggit:

What's the whole point to all of this certification? Doesn't college matter anymore?

A good start is a college education. You just can't deny this fact.

As with the combination of certification and experience, we found that most hiring IT managers really prefer individuals who are both certified and have college education.

This is a major point: Almost all of today's vendor specific certifications expire. If they don't expire, you'll most likely have to upgrade or "re-new" your certification. Yes, this is important to keep up with the ever changing technologies, but once you have  earned a college degree, it's yours for life. It won't ever expire, and you always have that foundation to later build upon.

Obtaining a college degree costs more. Employers take this into consideration when scaling their hiring salary.

College courses teach you a foundation of knowledge which is usually fine tuned with the experience of a job. Yes, it takes longer to gain a college degree, and is more expensive, but in the end, it is valued much more than just being certified.

Our advice is to go for the college degree first, then go for the certs.

Not everyone has the time to go to school during the day or at night. Distant learning is becoming the next best thing in gaining a college education. Most widely known nationally accredited colleges are currently offering online courses. Here's some great sites to help you on your educational path:
